Yoga is an ancient practice and way of being, that not only provides us with physical benefits, it nourishes our entire being – emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
The reasons people are drawn to Yoga can be so different from one person to the next.
One person might enjoy how Yoga compliments other strength and endurance training that they do outside of Yoga.
While another person might value Yoga most for how it supports them to feel at ease and relaxed within their mind and body.
Some of the benefits of Yoga include the following:
At Present Moment, Yoga is deeply valued for the ways it has been shown to support our emotional wellbeing and mental health, and how it can nurture, soothe, and regulate our nervous systems (Van Der Kolk, 2014, The Body Keeps the Score).
Many forms and branches of Yoga exist. At Present Moment, Hatha Yoga is practiced, whereby classes are centred upon physical movement and the breath.
At Present Moment, there are classes that are just for beginners, and these run in 4 week blocks.
There are also mixed level classes that are more suited to those who have practiced yoga before and/or have a good level of overall physical fitness.
There are also some Friday night classes that are gentler, and more centred on bringing rest and care to the body at the end of the week. These classes are suited for both those who are beginners, and for those who have more experience in practicing Yoga.
